Lando Norris Extends McLaren Contract for ‘Multi-Year’ Term

Lando Norris has committed his long-term future to McLaren by agreeing to an “extended multi-year” contract with the British team.

In the 2023 season, the British driver achieved six second-place finishes, securing a commendable sixth position in the drivers’ standings. This marked his most competitive season since making his F1 debut with McLaren in 2019.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Charles Leclerc’s decision to sign a new multi-year deal, extending his tenure with Ferrari.

Originally set to expire at the end of 2025, Norris’s contract, initially a four-year agreement signed in February 2022, has been extended following another strong campaign. With teammate Oscar Piastri also signing a new deal last September, McLaren will maintain an unchanged driver lineup for at least the next three seasons.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Norris, who joined the McLaren family as a junior driver in 2017, stated, “It’s a great feeling to be staying in papaya. I’ve grown up with McLaren and feel at home here; the team is like family to me.”

Reflecting on McLaren’s recent progress, he added, “The journey so far has been exciting, we’ve had ups and downs, but last season showed our desire to get back to competing at the front of the grid. The work Zak Brown, Andrea Stella, and the whole team have put in over the last year has been incredible, and I’m confident in challenging for wins with McLaren. I’m excited to create more amazing memories and continue working hard with everyone at MTC for the next few years.”

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown expressed his delight at continuing the partnership, emphasizing Norris’s commitment and contribution to the team’s resurgence: “It’s been a fantastic journey over the last six years, and he has shown fantastic commitment and desire to push the team forward and get McLaren back to the front of the grid.”

Team Principal Andrea Stella echoed the sentiment, stating, “Lando has grown as a driver and a person since initially joining McLaren in 2017. He impressed last season, playing an important role in our progress throughout the year, securing seven podiums with many fantastic drives.”

With the contract extension in place, Norris’s partnership with McLaren extends beyond 2025, emphasizing their shared ambition to compete for championships in the future.

McLaren unveiled their livery for the upcoming season earlier this month and is set to launch their 2024 challenger at Silverstone on February 14 before heading to Bahrain for pre-season testing, starting on February 21.
