The Suzuki Jimny is known for being an off-road vehicle with high ground clearance. However, not all modifications follow the conventional path set by manufacturers. In a bold move, an extreme modification of the Suzuki Jimny made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024.
The touch of ‘offbeat’ in this modification may be attributed to the creative work of students from Nippon Automobile College. They transformed the Suzuki Jimny SUV into a distinctive vehicle with a resemblance to the Toyota Mega Cruiser or Japanese Hummer.
These students named their creation the NATS Shakotan Jimny J1. This unique vehicle is born from the fusion of the shells of two Suzuki Jimny J1s, standing on a chassis borrowed from the Suzuki Escudo.
While the front view of the car looks impressive and rugged, its ground clearance is surprisingly low. When viewed from the front, the vehicle appears as if it is not equipped with wheels, almost as if it’s being sucked into the sand.
Despite its low stance, the five-door Suzuki Jimny is still usable for passenger seating.
Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a V6 H25A engine, maintaining the same 160 horsepower as the 2001 Escudo model.
The interior space is utilized to accommodate the Diecock sound system, featuring 12 speakers, including two large woofers that occupy a significant portion of the cabin. To address the limited space, the NATS Shakotan Jimny J1 is equipped with a roof rack carrying two bicycles.
Additionally, the vehicle is fitted with a steering wheel from Moon Eyes Japan, Toyo tires, and iMLA rims.
This modification not only showcases an eye-catching appearance but also incorporates various features, demonstrating the fusion of creativity and functionality. The use of components from different Suzuki models and the inclusion of unique accessories make this modified Suzuki Jimny a work of automotive art, sure to capture attention and inspire other enthusiasts in the automotive community.
